New cold case website targets unsolved murders

TORONTO

Killers beware: No matter how many years you’ve evaded capture and no matter where in the world you may be hiding, Toronto cops are still after you.

The force launched a new cold case website on Wednesday that lists more than 500 unsolved murders dating as far back as 1959.

“Globalization has made the world a much smaller place,” Chief Mark Saunders said as he unveiled the service’s latest crime-fighting tool. “Access to all corners of the world is a much easier thing now.

“So we’re hoping this will be a driver that helps us to solve some of these cases.”

The site is accessible at the force’s main address, torontopolice.ca, and includes a most-wanted section, details about rewards, and links for easy sharing on Twitter and Facebook.

Saunders urged people to visit the site and said he hopes witnesses will be more inclined to come forward and help police.

“This is a country made up of people from all around the corners of the world,” the chief said. “This allows us to connect these cases to other parts of the world where the offenders may be hiding.”
