Travelers from China and emerging asian markets driving tourism transformation

Ms. Pansy Ho, Secretary-General and Vice Chairman of the Global Tourism Economy Forum "GTEF", attended the World Travel & Tourism (WTTC) Global Summit 2017 in Bangkok, Thailand.

Macao – Ms. Pansy Ho, Secretary-General and Vice Chairman of the Global Tourism Economy Forum “GTEF”, attended the World Travel & Tourism (WTTC) Global Summit 2017in Bangkok, Thailand, in full support of one of GTEF’s influential international supporting units.

Ms. Ho was one of many distinguished speakers at the WTTC Global Summit 2017 engaged in the high-level dialogue on tourism’s role in Transforming our World. These speakers included Dr. Taleb Rifai, Secretary-General of World Tourism Organization (UNWTO); Mr. David Cameron, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom; Ms. Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, Minister of Tourism and Sports of Thailand; Mr. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism of Cambodia; Dr. Arief Yahya, Minister of Tourism of Indonesia; Ms. Wanda Teo, Secretary of Tourism of Philippines; Mr. Gerald Lawless, Chairman of WTTC;, Mr. Arne Sorensen, Chief Executive Officer of Marriott International; Geoffrey J.W. Kent, Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Abercrombie & Kent; Mr. Ge Huayong, Chairman of UnionPay; and Mr. Zhuang Hai, President of Tujia Holdings, to name a few.

In a panel titled Taking shape – Travel & Tourism in a changing world, Ms. Ho said: “The rise of Chinese travellers as well as travellers from other emerging Asian markets like India should be considered another disruptive force driving transformation. As these hundreds of millions of travellers have travelled out of their regions, yearning to see and experience cultures they now know from social media and internet, the question therefore is how to anticipate and prepare for their needs and interests. These travellers will prove, and have proven, that their somewhat different behaviour or demands could enhance the traditional and current mindset of hospitality standards. This is indeed a win-win scenario.” On the subject of how committed business leaders and investors are in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, Ms. Ho said: “In my industry sector, we simply have to make it happen.”

Global Tourism Economy Forum (“GTEF”), the leading international tourism platform designed to promote sustainable development of the global tourism industry with a focus on China, is scheduled to host its 6th edition from 16 to 17 October 2017 in Macao.

Inspired by the “16+1” economic framework initiated by China to intensify and expand cooperation with Central & Eastern Europe, and in support of the 2017 International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development, GTEF 2017 will focus its exchange on regional and trans-regional collaboration, and how regional collaboration can create a positive impact on economic globalization and contribute to sustainable tourism development.

GTEF 2017 will present Central and Eastern Europe, inclusive of the 16 diverse and culturally rich Central and Eastern European countries (namely Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia and Slovenia) as the Featured Partner Region, and the spectacular Guizhou Province as the Featured Chinese Province, bringing a truly promising tourism market mix to the Forum. GTEF will once again offer both rewarding programmes and unrivalled business networking and matching opportunities to delegates from China and around the world, so that they could capitalize on the momentum of tourism development and growth.
