EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEVV) — Three individuals were arrested on May 23, in Evansville, Indiana, for alleged drug dealing, following a traffic stop that led to the discovery of methamphetamine and cocaine.
Authorities told 44News that a white Toyota Avalon was traveling 70 miles per hour in a 55-mile-per-hour zone on Interstate 69. The traffic stop was initiated near 57/Petersburgh Road.
The driver, Tanya Swearingen, along with front-seat passenger Alphonso Kelly and rear-seat passenger Laurene Winrow, were asked to exit the vehicle. Officer Mansfield reported that as Kelly exited, a burnt glass pipe fell, recognized as drug paraphernalia.
A K9 partner positively alerted officers to the vehicle, prompting a search. Officers found a brown purse with methamphetamine and cocaine in the front passenger seat area.
Kelly had an active felony warrant for dealing methamphetamine. Officers later found cocaine in Kelly's right sock during a search incident to arrest. All three occupants' cellphones were seized as evidence.
The substances found showed a total field weight of 908.6 grams of methamphetamine and 71.8 grams of cocaine, field-tested positive.
All three individuals were booked at the Vanderburgh County Jail on charges of dealing methamphetamine and cocaine. Authorities suggest the individuals may be part of a larger drug trafficking organization operating between Louisville, Kentucky, and Evansville.
