ENOSBURGH FALLS, Vt. (WCAX) - More often than not, Kayla Beaudoin is baking up something sweet.

“Cookies, cupcakes,” she said. “Cheesecake cups are really what I’m most known for.”

When we visited her Enosburgh Falls home bakery, it was peanut butter chocolate chunk cookies on the menu. Reese’s Pieces and chunks of chocolate, mixed into a dough, baked, and later, delivered to her customers. Though, those are some of the more tame offerings by Mama’s Kitchen VT.

“I just really like the over-the-top stuff,” she said, calling them “Instagram-worthy.” “I’ll put like a second dessert on top, like a brownie or something like that.”

Beaudoin started baking about 12 years ago. While she doesn’t usually have much of a sweet tooth, pregnancy cravings had other plans.

“I really craved cheesecake, so that was one of the first things I did,” she said.

The mother of two is totally self-taught. With the help of fellow bakers online, she’s branched out quite a bit since beginning.

“TikTok is really big for that kind of stuff now,” she explained. “That’s where I get a lot of ideas. Social media, other bakers.”

It wasn’t until the pandemic that she realized she had to mix things up, taking her hobby to a new level to be home with her kids. After settling into a new house, she got her kitchen licensed. She says that’s when things really took off.

We came by Mama’s Kitchen VT by way of multiple recommendations from people online. Her colorful and beautiful bakes have gained her quite a following.

“It’s kind of shocking, really, to have that many people support something that you love to do,” she said with a smile. “It just kind of gives me a reason to keep doing it.”

Mama’s Kitchen VT goodies can be found in stores from Franklin County to South Hero. Beaudoin also posts a weekly menu for people to order from, and says she’s happy to take on any kind of confection commission. While many people like to work from home, this baker says she has an extra sweet job.

“I like working with my hands, I like being creative,” she said. “And, I like being here for my kids.”

It’s safe to say her customers like it, too.
