First GREEN Bank Honored by B Lab for Commitment to Sustainability

Orlando bank honored as Best for the Community and Best for the World Overall

ORLANDO, Fla., June 20, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- First GREEN Bank, an Orlando-based bank with a global mission, announces today nonprofit B Lab has recognized the bank on its Best For Community and Best For The World Overall lists.

These accolades are based on an independent, comprehensive assessment administered by B Lab, and include businesses that earned a community and overall score in the top 10 percent of more than 2,400 Certified B Corporations. The full assessment measures a company's impact on its workers, community, customers and the environment. To certify as B Corporations, companies must complete the full assessment and have their answers verified by B Lab.

“Recognition on both the community and overall lists is a testament to the dedication we at First GREEN Bank have not only to our local community but to the world as a whole,” said Ken LaRoe, founder and chairman of First GREEN Bank. “Helping out our local community while serving the world is our purpose and being recognized for achieving this goal is a great honor. We would also like to congratulate the other Florida businesses that made the lists – let’s continue working together to improve our planet one step at a time.”

First GREEN Bank has seven “values centers” in Central and South Florida. Each office is considered a “values center” for its strong commitment to responsible business practices. The values centers are all built/renovated to meet the highest level of sustainability possible, reflecting the bank’s commitment to advancing positive change in the banking sector. First GREEN Bank made both lists thanks to exceptional practices like its living wage policy, LEED certifications and its passion for volunteerism. To further their sustainable commitment, First GREEN Bank is also launching the first Central Florida chapter of B Corp in fall 2018.

“With the rise of anger at a system that feels rigged, people are hungry for companies, like First GREEN Bank, who are changing the system by building businesses that seek to create the greatest positive impact,” says Jay Coen Gilbert, co-founder of B Lab. “Best For The World is the only list of businesses that uses comprehensive, comparable, third-party-validated data about a company’s social and environmental performance. As consumers, talent and investors increasingly demand transparent, values-aligned businesses to buy from, work at, and invest in, companies will need to not just be the best in the world but the best for the world. Not just to be nice—but to be the most successful.”
